Swedish Covenant Hospital Shooting: A manhunt is underway after a shooting inside a Chicago hospital left two police officers injured on Saturday morning, prompting a large-scale emergency response and lockdown at the facility.
Authorities said the incident occurred around 10:45 a.m. at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital, located at 5140 N. California Ave. in Chicago’s Ravenswood neighborhood. Two Chicago Police Department officers were shot by a suspect who remains at large.
Officials confirmed that one officer is in critical condition, while the second officer is receiving treatment. Their identities have not yet been released as families are being notified.
Chicago Alderman Jim Gardiner urged the public to pray for the injured officers, stating that the suspect was still at large. Alderman Andre Vasquez also advised residents in the surrounding area to shelter in place as the search intensified.
The hospital was placed on lockdown immediately following the shooting, and surrounding streets were blocked off as police swarmed the area. Heavy law enforcement presence was reported throughout Ravenswood, with tactical units assisting in the ongoing search.
